3 Friends; Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist:

On the first day of walking on the Manaslu Trek in Central Nepal I somehow found myself helping 3 teenage girls transporting 2 chickens to their hometown of Macha Khola:

We took turns and stopped for a rest and drinks and talked a bit though with difficulty as their English was barely better than my few words of Nepali:

They were so pleasant and sweet and seemed such good friends. I somehow discovered they were of 3 different religions. But I could see that was irrelevant as they were laughing and having fun communicating with this old American. We walked on to Macha Khola and said our goodbyes. Me very grateful for a beautiful first day of trekking and an unusual encounter with 3 friendly Nepalis. Learning a lesson on the beauty of tolerance from 3 teenagers.
