Day 18 Taissy to Conde-sur-Marne Day 19 Conde to Châlons-en-Champagne
A nice day walking through the wine fields of Champagne.
In Marne on a whim we stopped and visited Laurent-Perrier winery which was a favorite of Lord Montbatten and Prince Charles.
Day 19 was an easy 18k walk along a canal.
We reached Notre Dame de Vaux church in Châlons at 12:20.
Beautiful Poem and plaque to both Via Francigena and Camino de Santiago pilgrimages.
It turns out we are again on a path shared by both pilgrimages.
This Camino comes from Brussels via Reims on the way to Vezelay and one of the 3 major France Caminos going to St. Jean Pied de Port.
No one was at the Notre Dame de Vaux church so I called a listed telephone # and Pere(Father) Bruno answered and was there in 2 minutes.
He walked us around the church to a large accomodation with a private room, kitchen, huge yard and garden adjacent to the church. And bottles of cold tea and champagne in the fridge. He even took our clothes to wash.
We had the big building and garden next to church to ourselves.
Father Edwin came later and explained Bruno walked and got the dirt from Santiago and Rome for the plaques in the church.
One of the nicer stays with the hospitality from Father Bruno and the wonderful accommodation.
