We departed Avila at 9 walking on pavement going up to cross and view back to Avila at sunrise. For pilgrims following in our footsteps, I would suggest coming up here at sunrise. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from albergue.

The first 1/2 hour or so required walking on a not busy highway but transitioned to a quiet country road. After an hour, we arrived in the small village of Narrillos de San Leonardo and took a break at the chair facing wall. Wondering who decided that.

Then continued on through some beautiful scenery with more large boulders reaching Cardeñosa about 12. Took a nice break at picnic table on outside edge of town before pushing on through more trees and rocky areas. Then more plains eventually reaching Gotarrendura about 2.

Gotarrendura is one more quiet small town with not much going on. Too quiet for some but I like it. Mika walked to the local bar and Andrea from Gota Bar came back to municipal albergue with us and opened it up and showed us around. Very decent municipal albergue. After cleaning up, we walked the 3 blocks to her Bar where she prepared an excellent Meñu del dia. Good local bottle of wine. When I couldn’t decide on a first course, she let me have 1/2 and 1/2 of both the potato salad and pasta with chorizo for first. Both were outstanding. Second was a tasty pork chop with salad followed by good premium ice cream bar. Talking to Andrea she questioned whether she could stay here as it would be difficult for her two small children as they grow into their teen years. The albergue was cozy and had a room for writing. 23K
