Day 61 Aulla to Sarzana:
Thought it was a much needed rest day with just a 17K walk after 3 days of 30k+ over the mountains.
It wasn’t with a 900+ meter ascent and descent. However, the walk up was spectacular with views of the “white sea” below.
We walked into the village of Vecchietto with an Italian father and son.
I was surprised when the son asked me to get in the picture with his father next to the town sign. After taking the photo he said, “Vecchietto means Little Old Man”. He was laughing. I am over 6 feet and 210 lbs. This was the first time in my life where I was classified as a Little Old Man. I didn’t know whether to get mad or laugh so I laughed. What the hell.
The views back to the village of Bibola were grand!
Sarzana was a wonderful town with a beautiful main plaza.
The Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral houses the magnificent Painted Cross.
The Fortress at sunset was great.
Dinner at Antica Osteria Tre Archi was fabulous as usual. The food here in Italy is consistently primo!
