VIA FRANCIGENA-Canterbury to Rome. Dinner near Parma

We met an Italian couple, Marco and Catarina, from Parma 2 weeks back in Aoste Valley.

They were walking the VF just for 2 days but we shared a meal and some fun.

Polenta topped with tomato sauce is fabulous

Last night, they drove to Fornovo and picked us up and we drove another half hour to Trattoria Fopla in the middle of nowhere. We feasted on local food.

With all due respect to Spain and other parts of Italy, I think I am a Parma Ham man

The torta fritta e spalla cotta d’asporto (fried bread with pancetta, prosciutto, coppa, and salami) was off the charts delicious.

You take the bread and put some ham on it and wrap it. Off the charts delicious.

Everything was delicious for that matter.

Marco and Catarina beat us to the bill which means we have to return to Parma. Looking forward to dining with our pilgrim friends again. — eating dinner at Trattoria Fopla Da Gelsy.
